I remember my first concert.
Billy Squire opened with Foreigner headlining at Madison Square
Garden in 1983. I was thirteen years old. Four years later I was in the sixth row at
the Lunt-Fontanne Theater for the Jerry Garcia Band and the next year began
traveling to see the Grateful Dead extensively through the summer of 1995. I had wide interests in music, especially
live performances. It wasn't until 1998
that I started taking my camera to shows.
Combining two of my passions, photography and music, has
helped refine my photography skills as I continue to learn. I have been working with Kynd Music Magazine
since 2005 and now also work with Glide Magazine. Photography to me is an enjoyable challenge,
not a job; especially when photographing live music performances where I work with
available light trying to capture moments and expressions that last a split
second. The expression of energy and
spirit is what I am trying to convey.
I have had the opportunity to photograph many recent summers'
highlights from sidestage at each Bonnaroo as well as Phil Lesh & Friends
at The Warfield Theater, The Dead at The Red Rocks Amphitheater, the first
annual Echo Project in Atlanta
and the last three Warren Haynes Xmas Jams.
I frequently photograph shows at Asheville's
largest club, The Orange Peel and worked as the staff photographer for the
first annual Ashefest Music and Arts Festival in 2007. I am eager to work with different bands,
festivals and publications.
