Carl Studna - ROCK ICONS
Born and raised in Los Angeles, Carl Studna is a multifaceted
photographer whose three decades of commercial shooting covers the spectrum of
music photography, author portraits, corporate and advertising photography,
celebrity portraits, and fine art. Studna's intimate portraits of influential
people are known worldwide and have graced publications ranging from Time
Magazine to Rolling Stone. What makes Carl's portraits distinct is the level of
soulful presence that projects through the subject's eyes or through the
sensitive artistry in the composition. Carl's career for the past two decades
shooting for CD's, book covers and magazines takes him around the world
photographing such musicians and luminaries as Paul McCartney, George Harrison,
James Brown, Genesis, Eric Clapton, the Dalai Lama, Timothy Leary and
Buckminster Fuller. A
passionate storyteller, Studna's illustrious history with rock icons has been
shared via radio interviews, college lectures and art galleries across the
country. Carl's most memorable professional assignments
have involved shooting and spending time with these individuals that served as
inspiring figures while growing up. Being greeted by His Holiness the Dalai
Lama with his beaming childlike smile. Delighted by James Brown's bag of
eccentricities while spending a day photographing his album cover, "Universal
James" while decoding every other word he spoke. Communing with Eldridge
Cleaver at Carl's home studio while Cleaver shared his life's sorrows and
victories. Having tea and discussing the benefits of meditation with George
Harrison and his wife Olivia in their hotel suite in downtown Osaka
while shooting Harrison's three week concert tour for his CD, "Live in Japan."
Currently residing in the pristine mountains of Colorado with his wife Cynthia and their two
dogs, Carl views the world as his home and enjoys traveling the globe in
offering his photographic talent and gifts.
