jeffrey berryman, oil painter, limited edition giclee, landscape, colorado artist

Jeffrey Berryman grew up in rural Northeastern Colorado. Though sports dominated much of his life, his artistic talent was recognized early on with works in poster contests.

He was a self taught artist until 1999 when he began studying at Colorado State University. There he discovered his love of oil painting. He received the All University Research and Creative Symposium Highest Distinction Award for Art in April of 1999. He would later receive his BFA in Painting from CSU.

Becoming interested in painting landscapes he got a chance to spend a year in Castiglion Fiorentino, Italy through the CSU Study Abroad program. There he developed a distinct passion for capturing the beautiful aesthetics of the European countryside.

Returning from abroad, Jeffrey quickly established himself as an artist and in 2004 decided to make it his profession. In a studio near Kersey, Colorado he continued to experiment with different styles and techniques. In 2007 he began working with oils on metal and today has released several limited edition prints of his works of art.

"My work comes from the ordinary; man-made structures we see everyday but don't really notice.  These structures, from the simple to the complex, have had an important part in the production and maintenance of civilization on the rural American landscape.  In transforming these structures from the ordinary to the extraordinary and giving them a new presence, I've come upon a new genre of art I call SurRURALism."

"As a SurRURAList, the subject matter surrounds me, from grain elevators on remote highways to dumpsters in alleys.  These are the things I've grown up with and value in my work today.  Through my instincts in painting, I preserve the significance of these structures and way of life that tie us all to the land."
